What are we Doing?
This is Robert Milligan he owned slaves, a plantation and was a British Businessman who profiteered from enslaved African people in Jamaica right up until his death in 1809.
We've created a petition to demand the removal and replacement of the statue of Robert Milligan, who was the creator and owner of West India Docks.
Because we believe that Black Lives Do Really Matter, along with this petition we have also formed a list of demands that we want and need to see happen. It is not enough to simply remove slave owner statues from across Britain without restoring some dignity, giving honour and healing the many wounds of those that the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade harmed so visciously and deeply.
These demands for change, justice and benefits we are making are a significant part of the Windrush legacy, on behalf of the Caribbean descendants of enslaved Africans who were kidnapped, tortured, held captive & made to labour for free, under heinous conditions. All under the systemic structure of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
This entire system of cruel & brutal slavery was created to service then Colonies and build the entire economic infrastructure of the British Empire.

Our Demands for Change & Justice:
- We demand the land owners - West India Quay Limited, parent companies & London Borough of Tower Hamlets Remove the Statue & plinth of Slave Owner Robert Milligan which has no place in our society today
- We demand the Statue of Slave Owner Robert Milligan is Replaced with something more fitting which acknowledges and commemorates the vast number of lives lost on the Caribbean Plantations. If it were not for the industries of Sugar, Rum & Coffee the Docks would not have been created to increase the profitability of these British businesses
- We demand that the land owners, Council, GLA & Museum of London actively honour the lives lost through the trafficking of enslaved Africans in line with the commitment to observe the UNESCO Day of the Abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and also in honour of the Windrush generations of British Caribbeans who were particularly impacted by the operation of this Dock's existence
- We demand that a working group is set up, comprised of a number of key organisations and individuals with appropriate funding allocated to support Black owned businesses.
- We demand that a working group be supported to appropriately memorialise the forced participation of enslaved African labour, in the colonies across the Caribbean, and latterly as part of establishing the economy of the British Empire.
- We demand a memorial delivery programme for the creation and placement of prominent large scale public artefacts across Britain.
- We demand a shift in historic Slave owning Corporations, their Subsidiaries and other related companies benefiting from capitalising on Caribbean heritage and culture which was built on the stolen labour and lives of enslaved tortured Africans
- We demand support for the creation of an access route to restorative finance for Black businesses in Britain, from long term corporations connected to the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
- We demand investment in connecting a modern British-Caribbean-South American-African direct trade route for import and export, with favourable tax breaks on products sourced from these regions as part of a restorative relationship of past wrongs.
- We demand commitment and support to legacy funding of appropriate training for those of Caribbean descent, to benefit from a business heritage which would not exist without the fettered labour of Black lives.
- We demand a proper apology for Slavery from the British Government and British Corporations.
- We demand Black History be taught in our schools across the UK
